- During the pandemic, online poker tournaments have exploded in popularity with huge tournaments being moved online.
LAS VEGAS – As the quarantine continues to keep the sports world on the sidelines, the World of Poker is making efforts to keep the fun going.
The World Poker Tour has been running major online tournaments in leu of in-person tournaments during the coronavirus outbreak.
This week, the WPT is presenting its $10,000 Bounty Series online tournament. This is an online poker tournament featuring a different member of the WPT family each day as a special bounty target.
This 3,200-person tournament will take place Thursday to Sunday and features WPT pros Tony Dunst, Vince Van Patten, Lynn Gilmartin, and Matt Savage.
Any player who is able to knock out one of the WPT pros and complete the bounty will be awarded up to 5000 tournament points.
Each day will feature its own tournament with $1,500 in guaranteed cash on the first two days, $2,500 on Saturday, and a $100,000 ClubWPT Diamond Championship Qualifier taking place on Sunday.
Due to the coronavirus, online poker has seen a huge boom as casinos were closed to the public. Casino and legal gambling locations in the USA are beginning to reopen across the country, but while they were closed online poker tournaments were breaking records.
Back in March, PokerStars hosted a Sunday Millions tournament that accumulated a record-breaking $18,603,200 prize pool with 93,016 entries.
This trend continued over the last few months with more and more poker platforms increasing or introducing online poker features.
This led to the WPT introducing the bounty series that is sure to pay out some big winners this weekend.
If poker players have ever considered getting into the world of online poker now is a great time to get started.
