TOKYO – Denmark is looking to improve on their 2016 bronze medal in the men’s team pursuit while the Netherlands men’s team sprint team is favored after failing to make the final in the last Olympic Games.
Both are favored by a solid margin but an upset isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Men’s Team Pursuit: Denmark Has Shortest Odds
Denmark placed third in 2016 and is now favored to win the gold medal by legal gambling sites. The initial heats for the event will begin early Monday morning EST and medals will be awarded on Wednesday.

If Denmark were to lose it would surely be an upset. However, sports betting sites don’t list a clear competitor.
Australia is historically dominant in this event, but seems to have fallen off in recent memory. New Zealand, after finishing second in the World Championship, could be a longshot with a chance.
Men’s Team Sprint: Netherlands Heavy Favorites
The interesting part about this event is that the heats, semifinals and finals all take place on the same day. Similar to Denmark in the team pursuit, the Netherlands made history by winning the gold in the World Championships by setting the world record.
Likely due to that, they are huge favorites in the upcoming event.

- Netherlands -250
- Great Britain +350
- France +600
- New Zealand +900
Oddly enough, Netherlands are bigger favorites than Denmark are, but Great Britain is given a better chance than any team in the men’s pursuit.
Regardless, it’s tough to draw up a situation where the Netherlands lose the event, but with all races happening in the same day there could be some unforeseen circumstances.
