New Casino Gambling Bill Could Bring Trump Casino To Miami
- A new gambling bill is being presented in the Florida legislature to expand gambling outside of the local tribes.
- The Seminole tribe currently runs the gambling in Florida and is backed by Walt Disney who also opposed the expansion of gambling in Florida.
- Former President Donald Trump is looking to open a casino at the Doral golf club and this bill could greenlight his wishes.
MIAMI – A new bill is being debated in Florida to expand the casino gambling operation in the sunshine state to more than just the Seminole Tribe.
With former President Donald Trump aiming to open a casino at the Doral golf club, this bill could be the catalyst to a Trump casino in Miami.
The bill has a lot of opposition, however. The Seminole Tribe of Florida, Walt Disney World, and the Mayor of Miami are pushing the anti-gambling agenda and are strongly against this bill.

The Florida legal gambling legislation currently in place grants the Seminole Tribe complete control over casino operations in the Sunshine State.
The Seminole Tribe used to pay millions yearly to the state of Florida in revenue with compacts in place that bar outside entities from operating gambling institutes in the state.
With the interest of a family-friendly market, Walt Disney World has historically backed anti-gambling efforts in the state in order to keep gambling in the hands of the Seminole Tribe and avoid any expansions.
Trump, however, has a strong relationship with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis which leads many to believe he would back the bill to help his ally in Trump to open a casino.
The Mayor of Miami Beach, Dan Gelber has vocally opposed the bill. May Gelber was the leader of the overwhelmingly passed anti-casino bill in 2018 and has spent his time in office being against casino gambling in the state.
“Gambling just sucks the the marrow out of your community,” said Gelber. “Casinos are populated with low-wage jobs, they cannibalize other businesses and tend to take money off of people least capable of affording it.”
Gelber has stated that Governor DeSantis and legislative Republicans could have to choose where their loyalties lie; on the side of Trump, or to their constituents.
With so much opposition to the bill, the legal gambling market in Florida may remain unchanged. Things could, however, shift and a Trump Doral casino could open in Florida.
