- Casinos in Maryland have been steadily growing, and are now reporting numbers higher than that of before the worldwide pandemic.
- Maryland’s six casinos reported a total of $161.5 million in June, up over 13% from June of 2019.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – It appears that casino gambling in the state of Maryland is returning to normal after new figures show strong numbers for the month of June.
Maryland released their newest gambling figures for this past June, showing increased growth over the last year, and since 2019.
Maryland already set a new record for gambling handle in May, and June’s numbers came in just below those set in the previous month.
Still, the numbers collected still show a massive increase in betting handle since June of 2019, well before the events of the pandemic.
Maryland’s six regulated casinos combined for a total of $161.5 million in revenue in June, up more than 13% from revenue in June of 2019. There are no numbers available for June of 2020 because all of the state’s casinos were closed due to the pandemic.
Of that $161.5 million taken in, the Maryland sports betting industry is responsible for $67.6 million - a massive 12.6% increase since June of 2019.
The biggest chunk of that money will go to the MD Education Trust Fund.
The top casino for legal gambling in Maryland remains the MGM National Harbor, which generated $63 million of the total alone in June.
The Live! Casino and Hotel at Arundel Mills was second with $58 million, but all of Maryland’s casinos reported increased handle except for Baltimore Horseshoe Casino.
This is a tremendously positive sign for the future of gambling in the state of Maryland and across the United States.
As we return to a sense of normalcy around the country, and world, leisure activities like gambling will continue to grow and in this case exceed their positions from before the crisis.
