Louisiana Casinos To Reopen On May 18 Among Other States

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana is set to become the first big market city to start reopening its casinos. Although they will begin the reopening process, they will have to follow safety guidelines amongst their employees and guests.

On March 17th, the Louisiana casinos had shut down due to the coronavirus.

Now, two months later, Louisiana officials are preparing to allow them to reopen. In order to reopen, casinos would need to gain the approval of their reopening plans from the state police.

Louisiana would not be the first market to open up its casinos, however. Smaller markets have already opened casino operations in states like Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Idaho. There are also other states that plan to reopen legal casinos around the same time that Louisiana does like North Carolina, Arkansas, and Arizona.

For the casinos in Louisiana that are planning on reopening, it would not be business as usual as there will be safety measures they need to follow. All employees and guests will have to still follow social distancing guidelines as well as wear a mask whenever they are in the casino properties.

Cleaning of all slot machines, table games, and other high volume spots in the casinos will require deep cleanings.

Also in order to follow the social distancing rules, only half of the slot machine games and table games will be available for guest use.

One solution that has been brought up in order to help the reopening process was to include the use of more electronic dealer games.

This would eliminate direct contact between the user and dealer as well as eliminate chips that come in contact with thousands of people.
