Game of Thrones Season 8 Betting Odds Featured At Sportsbooks Worldwide
- Game of Thrones season 8 betting lines have been available since the ending of Season 7 almost two years ago.
- US-based sportsbooks are not currently offering odds on the final season of the hit HBO show.
- Last February, New Jersey sportsbooks saw more than $747,000 wagered on the Academy Awards.
Fans of the hit HBO show have been saying, “Winter is Coming” since the start of the show back in the Spring of 2011. Winter has come early this year as the show aired its first episode of the final season this past Sunday. With all the hype surrounding the pop-culture phenomena, sportsbooks are looking to join.
However, sportsbooks in the US are not so quick to hop on the action. Even though New Jersey sportsbooks provided betting lines for the 2019 Academy Awards, they are not currently offering odds for Season 8 of Game of Thrones.
LegalGamblingUSA believes that instead, sportsbooks overseas such as William Hill U.K. or online betting sites such as Bovada have taken full advantage of the betting opportunities that come with the show, featuring wagering types such as who is going to speak first, speak last, die first, or even who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the show.
In an email written to ESPN, Joe Crilly of William Hill U.K. explained the thoughts behind bookmaker’s decision to include so many Game of Thrones betting lines.
“As we know from the show that literally anything can happen,” wrote Crilly. “There are thousands of theories on the interest, which we have tried to avoid so that our judgment isn’t clouded. Things that have happened in the series have been hinted at in previous episodes so an in-depth knowledge of the show has helped a lot.”
