FanDuel Starts Daily Fantasy Sports Operations In Iowa
- FanDuel is now accepting daily fantasy sports customers.
- DraftKings started DFS operations in Iowa about a month ago.
- No collegiate DFS contests are currently being accepted.
DES MOINES, Iowa – FanDuel began daily fantasy sports (DFS) operations in Iowa on Tuesday.
Legal sports betting and DFS both started in Iowa about a month ago. With FanDuel launching DFS in the state, Iowans will now have the opportunity to enjoy DFS contests aside from sportsbooks.
“We are excited to announce that Iowans can now enter paid fantasy sports contests on FanDuel," said a spokeswoman in an email with the Des Moines Register. "Following approval by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, millions of residents in Iowa can now access all that FanDuel fantasy sports have to offer.”
FanDuel is not the first DFS operator in Iowa. The first DFS operator was DraftKings. Both companies were supposed to launch on August 15 but they both ran into a couple of issues that pushed back their launch date. DraftKings began DFS operations on October 25, it took almost a month for FanDuel to launch their platform.
College Daily Fantasy Sports In Iowa
Although the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved FanDuel, there is a limit currently in place. IA SF 617 is the bill that allows DFS to happen in Iowa.
Under this bill, FanDuel, DraftKings, and other DFS companies cannot operate DFS contests on college sports. However, this is a temporary ban. The ban is lifted on May 1, 2020, and then Iowa will be able to have college DFS contests.
Legal gambling in Iowa has blown up in the last two months. With legal sports betting launching in the state, there are more gambling options than ever. This is especially true when you add DFS in the mix. With FanDuel now in Iowa, people in the state have a lot of ways to gamble online.
