- Jim McIngvale bet $3.3 million on the Houston Texas Astros to win the World Series.
- The massive bet was accepted by Caesars Entertainment's 'William Hill Indiana Sportsbook App.
- Should the Astros win, this will be the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history at almost $36M.
HOUSTON - Notorious sports bettor Jim McIngvale, also known as "Mattress Mack," put down $3.3 million on his hometown team the Houston Astros to win the World Series. He stands to gain almost $36 million if Houston wins the series.
The Bet In Question
This year, the Houston Astros have been performing well, having advanced to the World Series. Their opponent will be the Braves.
"Mattress Mack" stands to win a substantial amount if his hometown team wins, turning that $3.3 million into a nearly $36 million payout.
McIngvale is no stranger to both big bets and big payouts, having won $2.72 million on a $3.45 million bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from previous wagers.
The Bet Was Made With Caesars Entertainment's William Hill
He placed $2 million of the bet in June with Caesars Entertainment's 'William Hill Indiana Sportsbook App.
“It’s very cool that William Hill took that large of a futures bet,” said McIngvale. “Kudos to William Hill for stepping up and taking that big bet. I’ve done a lot of bets with William Hill, and they’ve always been great to me. The execution has always been great.”
Caesar's Entertainment’s co-president seemed as equally excited to have taken the bet as McIngvale was to place it.
“This is a potentially historic bet, and it’s one that we love to take,” said Eric Hession, Co-President of Sports for Caesars Entertainment. “We pride ourselves on our flexible limits in our sportsbooks and sports betting apps. This wager certainly makes baseball season a little more exciting for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing how that plays out.”
Legal gambling has never been bigger than it is right now, especially when it comes to sports betting. This may be the first of many massive sports bets to come in the future as the pastime continues to grow nationwide.
Game 1 of the MLB World Series begins Tuesday night, where the Houston Astros will face the Atlanta Braves.
