Wyoming Sports Betting Bill, Sent To Governor For Final Approval

CHEYENNE, Wy. - Sports bettors in the Equality State got some great news on Monday as a sports betting bill has made it through the legislature and is now on its way to Governor Mark Gordon for approval.

Wyoming HB 133 made it through the legislature with a final vote of 24-5-1 in favor of approval.

With the bill, the online sports betting in Wyoming would be regulated by the Wyoming Gaming Commission. They would approve of online sports betting sites in the state and would also allow for up to five different online sportsbook operators. The operators that are expected to jump in on the action in Wyoming are DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, Barstool Sportsbook, and PointsBet.

There is a process for those online sportsbook operators that wish to branch out into Wyoming. That is a $100,000 permit fee and a $50,000 renewal. Once granted a permit and up and running, the state will collect a 10% tax on all sports betting revenue.

Sports betting in Wyoming has been an interesting topic as it has been around for some time already as tribal lands have classified sports betting as already authorized to them as Class III gaming.

Now with state-regulated sports betting one step closer to launching, the state will look to follow their neighboring state, Colorado, as they reported a $326.9 million handle in January alone.

When all is said and done, Wyoming officials will look for legal sports betting and legal gambling sites to launch sometime in early September if it is passed by the Governor.
